WHAT IS REIKI?

Reiki is a life energy therapy with roots in Japanese origin. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “Energy”. Reiki is not affiliated with any religion or religious practice nor is it based on a specific belief. It is a gentle and effective form of energywork using spiritually guided life force energy. 


It is believed that Reiki is the life essence in all living things. Reiki Practitioners acknowledge that each of us have the ability to connect with our own healing energy and use it to strengthen energy within ourselves. It is thought that a person’s “ki” should be vibrant and flow freely. When this is true, a person's body and mind is in a balanced state of health and being.


A Reiki session may help to ease tension and can help support the body in facilitating an environment in which healing on all levels – physical, mental and emotional - can occur. A session is pleasant and relaxing and is often compared to being in a deeply rested or meditative state.


WHAT IS REIKI USED FOR?

Reiki is an ideal therapy for stress reduction and relaxation; many people use Reiki for overall wellness. Reiki is not a cure for a disease or illness, but it may assist the body to promote healing. Reiki is a complementary tool to use alongside traditional medicine and is practiced in many medical care settings.


MY APPROACH
Reiki is administered by the laying of hands on or directly above a person. Being mindful that each of us has varying levels of comfort, I am flexible in working with each client's individual needs. It is my goal to provide my clients with a comfortable and inviting environment in which to receive Reiki and ensure their safety and well-being before, during and after a session. I offer my clients the option of having aromatherapy incorporated into their sessions. The use of aromatherapy during Reiki may enhance and/or deepen a person's experience.  

WHAT TO EXPECT
An initial appointment may take approximately 90 minutes. I'll spend some time speaking with you and getting to know your personal needs and ideas in working toward achieving whole body wellness. Follow up visits can last 45 to 60 minutes. I advise my clients to rest and do light activity 24 to 48 hours after a session. There are a wide variety of sensations you may experience following a session such as sleepiness, a deep sense of calm or even an influx of energy. It is recommended that you take it easy as much as possible after your session to let your body adjust to the energy balancing you've just received. If you do not have any water restrictions or any specific orders by your doctor to consume a limited quantity of water per day, it is further recommended to hydrate yourself a little more than usual to aid in the removal of toxins from your body. The effects of a Reiki session may last anywhere from 24 to 72 hours - each person's experience is unique!
